Alexander H.
Roberts and Charles S. Meck established a partnership in 1891
under the firm name of Roberts & Meck. Upon the
deaths of Mr. Roberts and Mr. Meck just fifteen days apart in
1928, the business was reorganized as a corporation, Roberts
& Meck, Inc. Frank L. Meck and Robert S. Meck, sons of
Charles became the corporate president and secretary,
respectively. The company remained in the Meck family
until 1988 when it was purchased by Thomas A. Hallett from
great-grandson Robert G. Meck. Although no Roberts or
Mecks have been involved in the business for over two decades,
the company is still family-owned and operated. Husband
and wife, Tom and Maureen Hallett, have been president and vice
president of Roberts & Meck, Inc. since 1993, and they
currently employ their oldest daughter.
Originally a wholesale stationery house, Roberts & Meck,
Inc. mainly sold to retail stationers, druggists and novelty
stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.
Successful sideline sales in greeting cards and fireworks also
accounted for a great deal of business for several years.
In 1896, Roberts & Meck, Inc. became the pioneer school
supply company in Pennsylvania after the state Legislature
enacted the Free School Supply law, requiring school boards to
provide all school supplies free to students. As the
school supply industry flourished, Roberts & Meck, Inc.
gradually dropped the various sidelines and devoted full
attention to the school supply and equipment business.
Today, Roberts & Meck, Inc. serves 53 Pennsylvania
counties as a dealer for superior school furniture and equipment
manufacturers such as: Smith System and Artco-Bell
classroom furniture, AmTab and Midwest Folding Products
cafeteria and mobile tables, Draper Shade & Screen visual
presentation products and Specialty Drapery (Luxout) stage
curtains. As a Fleetwood Authorized Dealer, we are
proud to offer the finest mobile case goods in the industry.
